Laughter | A Poem

Does God laugh?
I think He does.
I can see the wrinkle ‘round His eyes
The softness in His observation.
Much like a parent enjoying the first steps.
His belly probably shakes when I crack my jokes, after all He is the one who gave me my wild humor.
I love the moment it seems like He has an inside joke with me.
One where only He and I would know because we talk,
We talk a lot!
I’ve got the touché times
Where He told me and I didn’t listen
But is funnier than a I-told-you-so
I laugh at His sense of humor.
I mean have you read the Bible?
He made all those people!
John outruns Peter.
Wringing of the nose brings blood?
Who writes this stuff?
Does God laugh?
I think He does,
And does so with us.
It’s a spark of joy in the midst of life.
Like a funny text in the middle of your day.
Lord, I pray-
even in the midst of pain, turmoil, and disaster-
Thank you for laughter.
