Relationship - A Poem

I wrote two poems for relationships because of the depth behind the word. It is commune with God and others. It is the interaction and community behind the two greatest commandments: Love God, Love Others as ourselves.

Relationship With God:
God, I struggled with the longing
For something to fill the ache
The lack of something more
It’s a feeling I can’t ignore
At first I hated myself for the desire
Then I tried to fill it with love
I tried to fill it with people
I attempted to lean on a sinking frame
I didn’t realize You my first love
Is the deepest One I long for
For anything good in anyone
Came from You above
I won’t get full satisfaction
On this side of life
But I can bring a bit of heaven
By taking time with You.
One day perhaps a relationship will reflect Your love in my life.
And in its time it will be beautiful.
But even then that won’t bring me satisfaction…
for until I fully lean on You Oh Lord,
Nothing will ever bring me to completion.
Relationship with Others:
I’m thankful I’m made for relationship
Though I feel too messy for them,
-I’ve got people to lean on.
There is nothing like a brother in time of sorrow,
A prayer text in time of need,
Someone who took the time in my life to plant the gospel seed.
There’s nothing like a joke shared
A loving but heated discussion sharpening our character,
Enjoying theology and worshiping You Lord, together.
Though I first lean on Christ,
I’m thankful He gives us one another.
with joy,
MJ
