Joy | A poem
Is this joy? I had a smile on my face
Devastation underneath.
Sorrow, depression, a story I hadn’t yet shared.
You must have joy? I hear a second sermon on joy
When my heart cries for relief from pain
I began to believe I must be the one insane
I must have joy! I slather on a deeper face of cheerfulness I shove my emotions deeper into an abyss.
I need joy. I cry out to the Lord, for I have not the strength to fake it anymore.
The tears roll down my face.
I hope for joy. My story begins to come out
My pain like a whirlwind- it was hard to process like emotions in a blender.
Joy. I realize that joy was what Christ had given me. I lean on Christ, I lean on community!
I dance with joy! I can not help but unabashedly dance for my King! He who was there through everything. And I have a new understanding.
You can have joy in the midst of pain.
You can share emotions at church.
The JOY of the Lord is knowing WHO He is…
Because His victory is the outcome.
with joy,
MJ
