I Get a Choice | A Poem

Despair, trial,

Depression, Denial.

Bit by bit they took my peace,

They ate at what was left of me.

You see her lying on the bench,

Not knowing what is next or if people truly care.

You see him applying for another job,

Struggling to make ends meet for his family.

You see me,

The one who wrestles the past presently.

You gave me the choice Lord.

To look up,

To see light.

To dare hope and have joy.

You see her and have given her a choice to receive Your blessing.

You see him and have chosen to strengthen his faith and give the provision.

You see me.

You allow my pain to draw me near,

You hold my heart and catch my tear,

You do not turn Your head but turn Your ear,

Oh, Lord because You hear,

And You love me.

I get a choice,

To wallow in pains that have been allowed.

I get a choice,

To allow You into the depths of my emotion- or shut You out.

I get a choice,

To share my pains and allow Thy healing- or keep them forever hidden.

I get a choice,

To receive Thine blessing- or leave them hanging.

I get a choice.

I don’t have to be strong to choose You.

I can be weak.

I can have tears.

I can have joy too.

You gave me these things so that I could cry to You.

And You Lord,

Would come down like the Prince You are and save me.

Save me from the things that are eating at me.

I get a choice.

I choose You, Lord.

with joy,

MJ
